News & Information

Generously underwritten by the Lou Lewis family, The Lou Lewis Memorial Fund of Seven Acres sponsors educational workshops in the field of gerontology. The late Lou Lewis believed that society achieves its highest goals through education and service – a belief he put into action. The fund sponsors two important programs:

ElderAge Lecture Series

ElderAge Houston, a series of lectures on aging, occurs annually as an educational opportunity for the community to learn about topics related to expert elderly care. Sponsored by the Barbara and Barry Lewis family through the Lou Lewis Scholarship Fund, the lectures are free and open to the public. In past years, subjects have ranged from Parkinson’s disease and dementia-related illnesses, to elder law and housing accommodations for the disabled.  See our events calendar for more information.

Lou Lewis Symposium

The Lou Lewis Memorial Symposium in Gerontology workshop is designed for both the gerontological and community-based healthcare team, including nurses, administrators, assisted living managers, dietitians, social workers, activity directors and dietary managers. Programs are free to healthcare career professionals.

The Lou Lewis Memorial Fund of Seven Acres, graciously underwritten by the Lou Lewis family, sponsors educational scholarships for qualified Seven Acres employees of all disciplines. This Fund is also supported by donations from community individuals and the Isla Carroll Turner Friendship Trust, established for the benefit of all senior citizens.
