Next Steps to the Future raises over $1.3 Million for
Seven Acres Jewish Senior Care Services

Seven Acres reflected on the past and looked to the future at the Next Steps Gala Sunday, January 28, 2024. Over 550 guests came together in the ballroom of the Hilton Americas Houston. The gala honored longtime supporter Larry Buck with the Joyce Proler Schechter Spirit of Life Award for his many years of service and support of Seven Acres, including as a former President. The evening raised more than $1.3 million for the care of the elderly who reside at Seven Acres. The emphasis of the evening was Seven Acres’ and the community’s dedication to honor our fathers and our mothers, both now and in the years ahead.

Emcees Linda Lorelle and Khambrel Marshall led the evening. As the guests were seated, they were invited to join in a lively game of “Heads or Tails” that had everyone cheering. The final winner won a $1,000 gift card to Dubin’s Fine Jewelry.

Jennifer and Scott Jacobson and Amy and Adam Mincberg, the next generation of the Seven Acres Board, stepped up to chair the event. Honorary Chairs Sue Sue and Don Aron, Barbara and Barry Lewis and Helen Wils and Leonard Goldstein were recognized along with Auction chair Bonnie Winograd.

During the cocktail hour, guests mingled and raised funds bidding on fabulous gift items at the auction and buying raffle tickets. The gift cards flew off the gift card tree. Guests enjoyed a tequila martini bar from LALO with a special Buck-tini named for the honoree. Entertainment for listening and dancing was provided by the David Caseres band.

The Joyce Proler Schechter Spirit of Life Award was introduced by Larry’s granddaughter, Molly Nicholson, and his wife Kaki Buck. Current President Michael Feinstein presented the Spirit of Life award to the honoree.

Rejoicing in the success of the 2024 gala, Michael Feinstein remarked, “Tonight was a special night as we recognized Larry Buck for all he has done as a mentor, friend, and inspiration for all of us at Seven Acres. We look to the future that is in good hands with our chairs tonight and know that seniors in our community will continue to be taken care of when they are in need.”
